A Magical Interview with Fotoviva
Our intrepid travel photographer Andrew Gibson has interviewed us at Fotoviva and the article can be found on his own photoblog at Andrew Gibson Photography. Andrew was so impressed with Fotoviva that he thought an in-depth interview was needed to help spread the word. Take a look around his blog for more interesting photography news and interviews…
Photo of the Month
Our Photo of the Month is a new feature where we showcase photographs of outstanding quality and beauty. For October we are presenting an incredible image by Tim Wallace called ‘Northern Tide’. This is such a dramatic photograph with wonderfully vivid colours. Tim says “Northern Tide is part of a set of images that I’m working on to produce contemporary photography using an old weathered chair, basically in places that you would not expect to find a chair.”
“This shot was taken just next to the pier at Saltburn on the North East coast at the very early hours of 4:50am as the sun was rising. The chair was placed in approx 3 inches of water as the tide started to wash in as I wanted a soft flow of water coming through the chair towards the viewer. It’s one of my favourite shots in the series and I think its quite peaceful overall with a gentle feeling of space.”
You can purchase this photographic art piece on canvas or as a poster from the Fotoviva store at www.fotoviva.co.uk. We also have more of Tim’s contemporary and landscape photographs available and you can check out his new photoblog here.
Andrew Gibson – Travel Photographer

We would like to welcome our new photographic contributor Andrew Gibson to the Fotoviva team. Andrew has a passion for travelling and seeking out the most beautiful corners of our world with his gritty black and white style of photography.
Andrew says “I’m fortunate enough to have travelled a lot in my life, and I’ve seen a lot of beautiful places which most people don’t have the time or opportunity to see. My mission is to bring the sights of the world’s most magical places, and to make these images available to all in the form of Fine Art Photography Prints. I work in both monochrome and colour, but I especially like to use sepia toned black & white photography to create a lasting visual impression as it’s more difficult and challenging than colour but ultimately much more rewarding. For me, the best, most evocative and timeless photos that I have seen are monochrome.”
Andrew recently made the switch from film to digital. Some of the photos you see here were originally taken on film, then scanned using a negative scanner and worked on in Adobe Photoshop to achieve the final result. Andrew has his own website at Magicalplacesfineart where he showcases his brilliant work. We will be adding more of Andrew’s photography to the Fotoviva catalogue in the coming weeks, especially in the Black and White Art section.
Welcome to Peter Paterson
We are happy to announce the arrival of Peter Paterson to the Fotoviva Team. He has been taking photographs for over 35 years starting mostly in monochrome which was processed in the darkroom. He exhibits photographs nationally and internationally in various Salons around the world and has also had photographs published in Digital Photo Magazine, Photography Monthly, Digital SLR Photography, FPME, and Creative Mono Yearbook.
Great credentials and wonderful pictures indeed. We will be uploading many of Peter’s great work over the coming days so check back regularly. We have a really nice abstract beach image in our ‘Modern Art‘ collection which is perfect for adding a summer feel to any room.

Tim Wallace joins the team

We are very happy to announce the arrival of Tim Wallace to the Fotoviva contributor team. Based in the North East and with over 20 years experience in the field of photography covering fields such as public relations, Media, commercial and business, Tim delivers a unique style of work that is both creative and contemporary. He owns a photographic company called Ambient Life that provides high quality photography to both corporate and domestic clients.
Tim says “I believe that the mark of a good photographer is not simply being technically capable but to have the imagination, and drive to pull off that ‘great’ image that lasts in peoples memories.”
His interest in photography started at the young age of 8, fascinated by the way a print appears when being developed. From that point it’s been a major passion in his life. At the age of 16 he started work in the darkrooms of the Western Morning News (Daily Mail Group) where he learned the art of printing and had a baptism of fire into the world of photojournalism, working with many great photographers from both the National Press and agencies such as The Press Association.
At 19 he joined the DCP Photographic Agency based in the South West and went on to spend all his time behind the camera rather than in the darkroom. Tim’s strong knowledge of lighting conditions and exposure controls allowed him to gain much success and mixed with a more ‘contemporary’ style to his work soon found favor with UK the National Press having work published in The Guardian, Independent, and Times to name but a few.
At the age of 23 he had a change of plan and joined the Royal Navy, serving with 42 Commando Royal Marines in many parts of the world. After 5 years service he followed a more corporate route working with Companies such as Hutchison Telecom, Orange, Freeserve, and NTL (Virgin Media).
Tim currently shoots a large volume of work for Aston Martin that has been viewed in such high regard that a specialised ‘Aston Art’ online print gallery will be launched later this month. We have a large range of his work coming to the store over the next few weeks but you can find a few of them in the Modern Art section already. We are very happy to have Tim sell his art through us and look forward to seeing more of his work in the near future.
A new photographer
We would like to welcome Eyal Zarrad, our newest contributor to the Fotoviva team. He is a landscape photographer based in Israel and started shooting film many years ago but now, like many of us, shoots only digital.
Having been to the British Isles several times, he feels very fond with the views it has to offer and thus has a large collection of photos taken here.
He uses a Canon 350D camera, Canon 17-40 & 70-200 L-series lenses complemented by a set of professional Lee Filters.
Eyal’s work is displayed mainly in web galleries which receive a lot of positive feedback, and has also appeared in the ‘City Portrait’ project held by his hometown museum.
You can see examples of his excellent work in the Landscape picture section and our Fine Art section
New monochrome photographer
We are pleased to announce the arrival of Peter Campion to Fotoviva. He belongs to Cheltenham Camera Club & Cotswold Monochrome and regularily exhibits in national exhibitions. Originally shooting film, he now uses a Canon 400D with a Sigma 18-55 f2.8, Canon 28-135 & his trusty Canon 70-210 L f2.8 (when he feels strong enough to carry it!).
Most of his pictures are monochrome & he specialises in taking pictures of people – preferably in their natural surroundings but will photograph anything that catches his eye.
We have just uploaded two of his photographs which are stunning black and white prints taken from a trip to India in 2001. He has managed to capture real human emotion through his lens which is a very difficult skill. You can see his work in our new Portrait Photography section.
We look forward to adding some more excellent images from Peter soon, as he has just come back from Bhutan!
New Photographic contributor
Jacky Parker lives in Buckinghamshire and discovered her passion for plant and flower photography whilst studying for the Royal Horticultural Societies Diploma in horticulture three years ago. After seeing some of her photographic images we knew she would be perfect for Fotoviva, and we were very happy when she agreed to join the Fotoviva team. She uses a Nikon D200 and macro 105mm lens for close up work and certainly has an eye for that perfect shot.
You can find her first picture in our Flower Pictures section. Plenty more of her superb pictures will be uploaded in the coming weeks so please check back regularly.
Another new photo contributor
What a busy week at Fotoviva! We would like to welcome another new contributor to the Fotoviva team with the arrival of John Woodworth who is a highly regarded landscape and travel photographer from Hertfordshire. His excellent work has been featured in various magazines and is also sold on Royalty Free Stock Photography websites.
We are looking forward to adding more of John’s photographs to the site in the coming months but you can find his first piece titled ‘Orange Flower’ in the macro section and another in the Fine Art Scenes category called ‘Desert Life’.
